Success Story: Norman Molomo

A few years ago, in the picturesque Potgietersrus area, two budding soccer players embarked on a remarkable journey that would not only change their lives but also impact their community in a profound way. Guided by dedicated mentors, they decided to venture into agriculture by starting a vegetable garden. Little did they know that their endeavor would soon blossom into a thriving enterprise that would make a significant difference in their lives and the lives of those around them.

In just a short span of two years, the young entrepreneurs managed to achieve what many would consider a dream. They cultivated their veggie garden with unwavering dedication and hard work, yielding a bountiful harvest. The fruits of their labor were not just for sustenance but also for sale. They formed a partnership with the local Spar, supplying fresh, locally-grown produce that quickly gained popularity among the community.

With their first taste of success, they reinvested their profits wisely. One of their key acquisitions was a smartphone, a valuable tool that enabled them to tap into the power of digital marketing. This leap into the world of online promotion allowed them to reach a wider audience and expand their customer base.

As they progressed into the next season, their efforts bore even more fruit—this time in the form of a motorcycle, customized with a sturdy plastic delivery box. This upgrade significantly improved their distribution capabilities, ensuring that their fresh produce reached even more customers promptly and in top-notch condition.

The determination and entrepreneurial spirit of these two young individuals did not go unnoticed. Their story caught the attention of Kobus Hurter from AgricultSURE and the dedicated team at Laeveld Agrochem. Recognizing the potential of these young farmers, they decided to join forces and provide support. Together, they embarked on an ambitious journey to expand the farming initiatives from their humble beginnings to a sprawling 5 hectares of agricultural land.

This collaboration between the youth and experienced agricultural experts is a testament to the power of mentorship, dedication, and community support. It’s a story of young dreams turning into successful realities. As these two remarkable individuals continue to nurture their enterprise, they are not only growing vegetables but also fostering a sense of hope and inspiration within their community.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Bidvest Protea Coin for their unwavering support of this community through the Youthzones project. Their contribution played a pivotal role in shaping this success story and making it a shining example of what can be achieved when the community comes together to uplift its youth.

The journey of these young soccer players turned entrepreneurs is a beacon of hope for the future, a reminder that with determination, mentorship, and support, incredible transformations can occur. Their inspiring story serves as a testament to the potential that lies within every community, waiting to be unlocked by the dreams and aspirations of its youth.
